2011 Hileman Award Winner: Alan D. Wilson

Alan D. WilsonAlan Wilson has served as Chairman, President, and CEO of McCormick and Co, since 2008. He joined McCormick in 1993, and has served a variety of roles within the company, gaining an understanding of the different facets of McCormick operations from supply chain to leadership of various business units.

During his tenure at McCormick, Mr. Wilson has held several executive management roles including President of Tube Products, President of McCormick, Canada, President of US Consumer Foods, President of North America, and President and COO of McCormick. Prior to joining the McCormick team, Mr. Wilson worked for nine years at Procter & Gamble, where he held progressively responsible positions in product supply, procurement and manufacturing.

Mr. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science in communications from the University of Tennessee in 1980. He attended school on an R.O.T.C. scholarship and following college, served as a U.S. Army Captain, with tours in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. Mr. Wilson currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Grocery Manufacturer’s Association, the Greater Baltimore Committee, and the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation. He also serves on the Maryland Economic Development Commission, and the Business Roundtable for Education. Mr. Wilson is President of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Alumni Board and serves on the Board of Visitors of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.Alan Wilson receives Hileman Award from Dean Wirth

His past service includes the Board of Directors of Williams Scotsman where he served on the audit and compensation committees; the Food Marketing Board of St. Joseph’s University, and the St. Paul’s School Board of Trustees.

Wilson received the 2011 Donald G. Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award at the spring commencement ceremony for the College of Communication and Information (CCI) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  He also delivered the college's commencement address to graduates and their families.

"As the top executive of one of the largest and best-to-work-for U.S. corporations, Alan Wilson is a master communicator," said CCI Dean Mike Wirth. "His remarkable career as an entrepreneur and business leader underscores the importance and centrality of communication and information in all career fields and inspires our students to believe that there is no limit to what they can accomplish."
